Chris Brown Finally Apologizes...But is He For Real?

With all the questions, debates, and anger surrounding the Chris Brown and Rihanna fiasco, Chris Brown finally came out with a long awaited apology to the people. But with his calm mannerism and perfect speech, he has a lot of people wondering if he’s truly sorry. In the video, Chris Brown apologizes for the incident to his fans, explains that he is getting help, and wants to continue to be a “role model”. Surprisingly, he also says that he has apologized to Rihanna as well countless times.

This video does seem very well rehearsed, but I feel that that shouldn’t take away from the fact that he is truthful in his words. I do believe that Chris is sorry for what he did and actually wants to overcome all of this. No young man wants to be known to the world as a woman beater, especially one with the career and fame like Chris Brown. Chris is well aware that besides his music career being greatly affected by this incident, he really has let a lot of people down. Not just the fans, but the people in his life whom he sees and talks to everyday. He’s well aware that he’s lost many people’s respect around him. I’m also sure that at one point, and hopefully now still, he cared for Rihanna and now has completely traumatized her. I’m sure he’s aware that he has ruined a part of her life, because any woman that has gone through abuse suffers psychological problems years after the abuse has ended.

But of course this apology is a little tainted. Critics are upset because Chris decided to wait until after his court case to apologize because it would hurt his case and the ruling. Chris also has an album coming up, causing people to feel that this video is just meant to butter up his fans before the CD drops. People also feel that this apology came way too late. And when he actually did apologize the first time, back in February, he was very vague and wouldn’t even name Rihanna as the victim. According to some sources, Rihanna and her camp were appalled by his statements back in February because of the reasons stated previously.

Chris Brown’s apology in February:
"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired, I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones, and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person.”

For the beating of Rihanna, Chris is currently facing five years probation, 180 days of community service, and anger management counseling. This too has people angry as well, because many feel that Chris should have gotten jail time. Although Chris is a very young man, I do feel that there is no reason why he shouldn’t have gone to jail. Like plenty of other domestic violence abuse cases, the perpetrator usually always faces jail time. There is no excuse whatsoever for any man to put his hands on a female and beat her the way that he did. That type of animalistic behavior deserves a punishment to spend some time with some other animals, behind bars.

For those of you who did not get a chance to see the damage done to Rihanna, this is a picture taken by the police department after the incident.

I think what we can all agree on as a whole is that Chris definitely needs some help. Most men who do abuse the women in their life continue with abuse all throughout their life. For a young man like Chris, with all the pressures of fame and now all of this, there is a huge possibility that he will find himself in this exact situation again. And although Chris is an entertainer and loves his music career ,that should really be one of the last things on his mind right now. He should focus on getting help, working out the problems that caused him to act this way and fix all the ties he has broken with everyone in his life.

Read this interesting quote from a comment someone posted on Ew.com.

Reader says : “I wish people would leave him alone. And for everybody that is saying it is too late to say sorry. is wrong it is never too late as long as you own up to what you did and that is what he is doing owning up im proud of him it takes heart and a real man to say sorry. they both are young and dumb real dumb they rushed into the relationship and we see where that led to .all i am saying is give him another chance gosh. i mean if people gave R-Kelly (we all noe what he did ) another chance and Jay-z (who hit a female backstage at his concert which was caught on tape by the way and stabbed somebody at a CD release party ) another chance and any rapper who has claimed that they killed somebody and degrade woman(if you buy the CDs and listen to their music than you are supporting what they did to ) another chance than really we should be able to give Chris another chance.HE IS HUMAN GIVE HIM A BREAK.”

This is such a difficult topic and mostly everyone shares a unique opinion about the case. Please tell me if you think Chris is genuine in his apology, and whether his actions should be forgiven by the public.

Her Body's too Bootylicious for Him!

Journalist Jason Whitlock just published an article on Fox's sportswebsite criticizing Serena William's lack of tennis achievements due to her weight and overeating. After reading a response from a journalist criticizing Whitlock and reading Whitlock's article, I was so angered and disgusted from his lack of respect for the tennis superstar and icon. Read what journalist Carmen Dixon wrote to Jason Whitlock. Beneath her article, I published what I myself sent to Mr. whitlock in an e-mail, hoping that the pervert receives it and reads it him self.

Why Jason Whitlock is Wrong About Serena Williams

Leave it to sports columnist Jason Whitlock to take a glorious moment of athletic achievement and pervert into an overly simplistic and degrading evaluation of appropriate female booty size. Just two days after Serena Williams triumphed in her third Wimbledon win, this time over her big sister Venus, Whitlock comes out with a column slamming her body and athletic accomplishments:

With a reduction in glut, a little less butt and a smidgen more guts, Serena Williams would easily be as big as Michael Jackson, dwarf Tiger Woods and take a run at Rosa Parks.

You can call me unfair. You can even scream that I'm sexist.

But there's an inescapable truth about Serena Williams: She's an underachiever. Source: Serena could be the best ever, but, Foxsports.com

Whitlock's pronouncement is insulting and uninformed. Let's take the insult first. Whitlock attacks Serena's beautiful, very muscular body indicating that it is in some way less than efficient - he basically calls her fat.

But he has no way of knowing Serena's muscle to bodyfat ratio. Because Serena is muscular, even a relatively low percentage of body fat will make her appear many times bigger than a less muscular, European competitor.

I may be an off season female bodybuilder carrying excess bodyfat right now, but even when I'm very lean, many people presume my size is mostly fat instead of rock hard muscle. Serena is solid, not a thing jiggles as she covers the court. That Whitlock has the gall to attack the size of her muscular derriere recalls historical subjugation of the black female body and he establishes no factual link between Serena's on court performance and her current weight. For instance, Serena may hit harder carrying a few pounds, and she certainly moves well. And if she was a little slow, maybe it was the hamstring injury she may have been dealing with?

God gave Serena everything, including drop-dead looks. She's chosen to smother some of it in an unsightly layer of thick, muscled blubber, a byproduct of her unwillingness to commit to a training regimen and diet that would have her at the top of her game year-round.

[and later]

BBWs - Big Booty Women - do not write me angry e-mails. I'm only knocking Serena's back pack because it's preventing her from reaching her full potential as an athletic icon. I am not fundamentally opposed to junk in the trunk, although my preference is a stuffed onion over an oozing pumpkin.

(A stuffed onion is a booty so round and tight that it brings tears to your eyes).

I'm sorry. I digress. Source:Fox Sports on MSN

"Oozing pumpkin." If you do not know who Saartjie "Sarah" Baartman (1789 – 29 December 1815), aka "Hottentot Venus" was, then please click on the link and learn. There is a legacy of dissecting the black female body in this degrading and dehumanizing way.

Now about Whitlock being uninformed. As a muscular athlete, I can tell you conditioning is just one factor in achieving peak performance. At her level, only Serena and her trainers and doctors know where ability and performance intersect for her. Mental toughness, pain tolerance, genetic physical issues are all factors that affect performance. Booty size is really irrelevant in the scheme of things.
-Carmen Dixon

Everyone please watch this video about Sarah Baartman... we ought to know our history.

MY EMAIL TO JASON WHITLOCK:

Mr. Whitlock, I did not know who you were before reading your article about Serena Williams and frankly I wish I still didn't. As a black man to say something so degrading and disrespectful to another black woman, that is shameful, pathetic and sad. Don't you think we have enough criticisms from other races constantly bringing down our whole race and enough hip hop videos bringing down black women as well? For you as a journalist to write what you wrote not only disrespects women especially your target, Serena Williams, but makes you look bad as well Mr. Whitlock.
You say you like a "stuffed onion" yourself, but you obviously really don't have an appreciation for the black w omen's body. Especially not to mention that you were criticizing the most successful female tennis player out right now, who is much more successful, smart, talented, and humble than you will ever be.
Just to give you a background on who I am. I am a respectable, young, female black college student. I own a blog to target and hopefully get rid of disgusting, degrading people like you and make ALL women feel good about themselves. And I will definitely be posting up some of your ruthless and thoughtless quotes. It's sad that a 19 year old girl has to call you out on your faults. And if you have a daughter Mr. Whitlock, or have one in the future, I would like to see your reaction when someone says the comments that you said to Ms. Williams, to your daughter.

Suck This!

I recently saw a very interesting t-shirt on a train ride and quickly took notice of not only the picture on the shirt but the caption below. I was lucky enough to take a picture of the shirt, with the permission of the wearer. After sitting back down in my seat, I was anxious to find out what this shirt meant. When asking the wearer of the shirt what the shirt may mean, he simply replied, “I’m not getting into this conversation with you right now.” So since he was not able to interpret his own piece of clothing, (and rude enough to not answer, jerk), I’m asking what you guys think of this shirt. What do you think it is saying? Do you feel it is degrading or just a little scandalous?

Frankly, I think this shirt can be interpreted in many different ways. Judging from the fact that this wearer was a very young man (possibly between 19-22 years old), I'm sure he interpreted it as him getting “sucked”, preferably by a hot female like the one on his t-shirt. I think his rude remark said it all.

Overall though, this shirt seems to be just a raunchy t-shirt that is just merely pushing the limits. I think it can be interpreted many ways, and even possibly worn by females. Does it mean that it’s still not degrading? I’m not sure if it’s that black and white. I believe the shirt has multiple meanings for a reason.

Tell me what you think!

Ready...Set..GRAB!!!

If a woman is skimpily dressed, is she asking to be touched? Is it ok if a guy automatically grabs her without her permission? Both women and men feel differently about this issue and the answer still remains up in the air.

Many people say yes. If a girl is walking down the street in a mini dress or extra short shorts, with her breasts possibly exposed, she will obviously get attention from guys. Wearing that type of outfit can definitely provoke a man to touch. A man might feel that if she exposed herself in that manner, she obviously wanted the attention. For many doing the “grabbing”, it can be viewed as something positive: like seeing what you like and letting the object know that it is desired. But for the one getting grabbed, it can be very offensive and a violation. Many women also do not like the idea because they feel that the man is viewing them as a slut or a whore.
Even heterosexual females will do the occasional breast or butt grabbing to their girlfriends. We’ve all had that day when our butts looked good in our jeans and heard, “Omg Melissa, you actually have an ass in those jeans!” or maybe we’ve heard “Wow Zesty, your boobs actually don’t look like mosquito bites today!”

Most females can attest to these incidents occurring at least once in life. Many can also say that at least once they’ve felt uncomfortable or offended.

With all that being said, they are still many people that feel that no matter what, people are not justified to touch you in any way. Many feel that no matter what, men should always be gentlemen. Women should be able to wear whatever they want without worrying if they are going to be groped. And many girls do not want to hear stupid comments from their girlfriends either. Sometimes a girl wants to look good in peace! Hearing that yesterday their breasts didn’t look big enough or their butt didn’t look voluptuous enough as compared to today, is not really a compliment. Being smacked and grabbed by either woman or man doesn’t always make a girl feel attractive.

You tell me what you think and leave a comment below!

Gentlemen and Rapper

Aubrey Graham famously known for his great performance as Jimmy Brooks on the teen drama show Degrassi has just become a new rapper and hit sensation. Not only is he known right now for his lyrical talent but for being a very humble, down to earth gentlemen. Even old rap superstar Queen Latifah complimented the new artist as being very refreshing and giving women that good feeling while listening to his music, unlike many other rappers.

But his new video "Best I Ever Had" has a lot of people speaking and many women disgusted by the overwhelming display of breasts all throughout the video.
I myself am a fan of Drake and have been listening to him before people even knew he was a rapper. He is very positive in his music and demeanor, but this new video has pushed the limit. It is really hard to focus on anything else except for these women's breasts bouncing up and down throughout the entire video. The concept of the video is pretty good and actually entertaining, it is not like every other video with random women strutting in bikinis. I feel it would have been just perfect without the display of boobs, even with the occasional girl on girl stretching.

Take a look at this video and please tell me what you think. Below the video, there is an interview with Drake and Complex magazine, stating how he felt about the video. If you click on the link you will be on Drake's blog and will be able to read much more from this interesting interview.

Complex: Everyone’s been waiting on this video. Can you take us through the making of it?

Drake: Yeah. The video is directed by Kanye West. Basically we decided, as opposed to taking ourselves super serious, we just wanted to have some fun with it. Myself, being a young man, a young single man at that, I kind of wanted to be real about the way I function with women at this current point in my life. Which is, I don’t have one woman that I call my girl. There’s different girls in my life that play different roles and I see at different times, but collectively they kind of make up the roster of happiness for me [Laughs].

Complex: Understandable. So what’s the concept?

Drake: The concept of the video is, I’m a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don’t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning.

It's the Man's Turn Now!

There was a recent photo in W magazine of celebrity Ginnifer Goodwin wearing some sleek, sexy two piece outfits surrounded by two topless, muscular, sexy young men. I know this scenario sounds familiar, but it is usually the other way around.
Of course we have had too many ads where the man is the main focus of attention and the women are just mere accessories. There have a billion and one protests and heated debates towards this too often occurrence. But in most recent times, things have changed where the woman is now the main focus, often fully dressed, with the guys being seen as the sexy, unclothed accessory. But we usually don’t hear any complaints about that,do we?

Well, some of the reasons for that may be obvious, others not, but this is rarely discussed.

One of the reasons can be that men are usually not seen as sexual symbols in America. Although we have our Brad Pitts, George Clooneys, Denzel Washingtons, and Robert Pattinsons (for the new generation), we will never have a male version of Marilyn Monroe, (an iconic sex symbol). Of course, men can be great eye candy for the heterosexual female or homosexual male, but women’s sexuality is just not perceived or exploited in the same manner as men’s sexuality.
Another factor may be that this is the women’s way of getting revenge. Women have too often been degraded and exposed; women and men might feel it’s the man’s turn now to show their goods. No more seeing only naked women or half naked women, or seeing a woman being used to sell a product, like beer. Men can also use their bodies as a sexual commodity and look very pleasurable to the public.

Revenge? Really Zest? We’re not that terrible.

Ok, so maybe it’s not revenge. Maybe times are just changing. People are realizing that women can be just as sexual as men. We want to see naked guys! Yes!
There are no more myths that women do not ever get horny (and the ones that do are whores), or that women view sex as torture. Women can even be accepted as initiating sex with a partner. All these things are acceptable and normal. So, men becoming more outwardly open with their bodies seem to be a sign of the times.

What do you think of this picture? Mere eye candy or a little degrading to our men?

Here are some more similar pictures. Tell me what you think.

Here it is the other way around. Did you feel differently looking at this picture and the pictures above?
